Using Telephoto Lens Flash Bracket System
There are many reasons to use a telephoto lens flash bracket system. Some people use it simply to illuminate their photography and make it more interesting. Others use it to lengthen their exposure time to capture the perfect shot. And still others use it as a preventative measure.
Many photographers have been exposed to harsh weather conditions on location that make it difficult to get shots. When this happens, you might need to consider utilizing a telephoto lens flash bracket system to reduce the light that is received by your camera. While using a bracket system does increase the chances of your lighting being bright enough, you can still prevent the harshness of using a softbox.
So what is a softbox and how does it relate to a bracketed system? A softbox is the same thing as a softbox. However, the difference is that the softbox is designed to use on long exposures where you want to allow the sky to lighten up enough for the stars to be visible. Instead of just being used on long exposures, the softbox is designed to protect the camera from extreme conditions. So while there are two main types of softboxes, you will find that a bracketed system will have the same basic functions but using one that is designed for shorter exposures.
In most cases, a softbox will either use a full system of softboxes or two softboxes in series to allow you to lengthen the shutter time. The reason this is done is to help soften the camera image for the stars to show up. This may work well if you are trying to take photos that look like the Milky Way. But if you are trying to take a portrait shot or a good wide angle shot, the short exposure times will make the sky appear overcast.
When you are planning on using a telephoto lens flash bracket system, you will also need to make sure that you have an additional set of softboxes to use as a back-up system. You should always check with the manufacturer of your camera or any other flash guns before you use one of these. This will ensure that you get the best results possible. Also, you will want to keep in mind that using the softbox as a back-up system should only be done when you are satisfied with the results.
If you choose to use a telephoto lens flash bracket system, you will find that it is a very simple process. You should start by looking through your current range of equipment and make sure that you do not already have one. If you do have a back-up system, check to see if you have an extension cord that is long enough to reach the bracket. You will also need a direct connection between the camera and the bracket. You will want to focus on getting the lighting right on the shooting spot and to have a bright background to add to the exposure.
Once you have everything in place, set the base station to the location you would like to expose the photo. Then mount the flash guns on the bracket and adjust the brackets to allow for the battery power to come into play. Once you have the settings set, connect the battery pack to the base station. Then turn on the back-up unit and let it activate the lights. When the photo is taken, move the bracket away and then try your composition.
Once you have successfully bracketed the flash, you can eliminate the softbox altogether. If you have space, the bracket can serve as a stand-alone softbox that can be removed and disposed of if you need to change locations. If you are using the bracket as a back-up unit, it should be connected to the camera so that it is ready at a moment's notice. When you have made all of your selections and have set the base station and other things in place, you will be able to go take some great shots.
