Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Review

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is an image stabilisation lens for Digital SLR cameras. It has a few features that make it a solid choice, however the quality is very poor. The lens has a lot of flaws that detract from its use as a serious lens for Digital SLR cameras.

The optical design of the lens is by Zeiss in Japan and it has a Zeiss ZA 44-A lens. The Zeiss lenses are well known for producing high quality lenses for use in digital SLR cameras. The old design has been popular with Nikon since their early days in the photography business. The latest model though does not provide much in the way of features for the same price that a similar lens would cost.

The biggest selling point for the lens is that it can be used for both portrait and landscape photography in situations where Digital SLR cameras are not able to be used effectively. The lens features a close focusing distance of just one metre and this is quite a long distance for a digital SLR camera.

Another feature that allows for the use of the lens is the virtual viewing screen. This is a system that turns the image on the lens so that you can see the picture on a smaller monitor instead of a real camera view screen. This works well with the lens because it gives you a better view of the picture and also helps to avoid any glare.

However, the best feature of the lens is actually its ability to produce a decent image stabilisation system. It does have a vibration reduction system built in, which provides excellent image stabilisation for the photos taken with the lens.

When using the lens for Digital SLR cameras, one of the first things that you will notice is that the lens uses an image stabilisation system. This means that the pictures taken with the lens will be much clearer and sharper than they would be if the lens was not using image stabilisation. However, when using the lens for regular photography, you won't notice this benefit because the lens has the same quality as the other Nikkor lenses on the market today.

If you are looking for the best optical quality at a great price, you might want to look at the lens instead of the Virtual Viewing Screen. You will be sacrificing the image stabilisation system but the quality is better.

The AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is a great lens for taking pictures but you need to understand that the quality is average at best. The ability to create the virtual viewing screen will help though and the fact that it will reduce any glare will make this feature a major selling point.
